Our Sustainability Strategy

The highest level of responsibility for Sustainability, Environmental Management, and Safety at Work is at the MAHLE Management Board. Strategic decisions related to the sustainability goals of MAHLE are made in the MAHLE Management Board.

Our sustainability management is regularly reviewed by the Sustainability Steering Committee. It shall identify related risks and opportunities at an early stage and ensure the appropriate management of our sustainability projects.

The corporate function for sustainability is the driving force for sustainability at MAHLE. It coordinates sustainability activities throughout the Group, leads the regular updates of the materiality analysis, conducts performance monitoring, and ensures the transparent communication and stakeholder dialogue.

Following our materiality analysis the sustainability program of MAHLE covers the following eight strategic topics tackling numerous United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

Climate & Environmental Protection

Occupational Health & Safety

Employees & Social

Sustainable Purchasing

Human Rights

Compliance & Ethics

Sustainable Products

Sustainable Finance

Climate & Environmental Protection

MAHLE regards climate and environmental protection as an integral part of its corporate responsibility and systematically integrates corresponding requirements into strategy and operational processes. As such, MAHLE contributes to the SDGs “Clean Water and Sanitation” (SDG 6), “Affordable and Clean Energy” (SDG 7), “Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure” (SDG9), “Responsible Consumption and Production” (SDG 12) and “Climate Action” (SDG 13).

Occupational Health & Safety

We commit to complying with the applicable standards for occupational health and safety. We carry out numerous measures to minimize risk and prevent accidents, in particular regular risk assessments, instructions, and training. These measures support the implementation of the SDG “Good Health and Well-Being” (SDG 3).

Employees & Social

As a foundation-owned company, we have a unique responsibility towards our employees. We create framework conditions to ensure fair and safe standards for our employees and partners and therefore contribute to the SDGs “Gender Equality” (SDG 5), “Decent Work and Economic Growth” (SDG 8) and “Reduced Inequalities” (SDG 10).

Sustainable Purchasing

MAHLE takes responsibility for sustainable and compliant supply chains and has further expanded its purchasing activities in the face of increasing regulatory requirements. The basis of any cooperation is compliance with our sustainability standards. Our measures in procurement contribute to the SDG “Responsible Consumption and Production” (SDG 12).

Human Rights

Respect for human rights and ensuring fair working conditions are fundamental elements of our corporate culture. This includes, above all, combating child and forced labor. Thus, we contribute to the SDGs “Gender Equality” (SDG 5), “Decent Work and Economic Growth” (SDG 8) and “Reduced Inequalities” (SDG 10).

Compliance & Ethics

Responsible business behavior at MAHLE means complying with laws and internal rules while ensuring fair competition. Integrity, transparency, and compliant action form the basis of our corporate governance and are implemented through clear structures and processes. Therefore, we contribute to the SDG “Decent Work and Economic Growth” (SDG 8).

Sustainable Products

Sustainable product development at MAHLE aims to reduce environmental impact and promote sustainable mobility. MAHLE relies on materials with a low carbon footprint, energy-efficient production processes, and concepts for circular design. With these measures, MAHLE supports the SDGs “Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure” (SDG 9), “Responsible Consumption and Production” (SDG 12) and “Climate Action” (SDG 13).

Sustainable Finance

Investment and financing decisions that take environmental and social aspects into account are crucial for implementing the Paris Climate Agreement, transitioning to a circular economy, and transforming the transportation sector. By integrating sustainability aspects into our financial decisions, we contribute to the SDG “Decent Work and Economic Growth” (SDG 8).
