Detroit Diesel Names MAHLE Top Supplier in 2001

(Morristown, Tennessee)--MAHLE, Inc. is one of ten companies recognized as Detroit Diesel Corporation’s 2001 Supplier of the Year. This is the second time DDC has honored MAHLE with this prestigious award.
Companies are measured by DDC’s supply chain management program, Continuous Customer Value Improvement (CCVI). DDC evaluates major suppliers quarterly in the areas of quality, delivery, cost and technical support, with the goal of waste elimination through enhanced communication and coordination throughout the supply chain.

An award presentation was held at MAHLE on March 14, 2002. Nick Vassalo, vice president, purchasing and Chuck Clement, senior product buyer, were on hand to congratulate MAHLE for its outstanding performance.

2001 marks the fourth year of the program, which provides supply base coverage for approximately 81% of Detroit Diesel’s product material purchases. In the spirit of continuous improvement, CCVI is being modified in 2002 to refine the scoring metrics with expanded emphasis on cost reduction, idea submission and warranty ownership. CCVI is a major initiative of the company.

It is a member of the German headquartered MAHLE Group, leading manufacturer of pistons and other engine components. In the fiscal year, the three business sectors, Piston and Engine Components, Filter Systems and Valve Train Systems achieved worldwide sales of EU 2.8 billion with more than 28,000 employees in more than 50 production plants.
