| For highest loads and long service life MAHLE is the market leader for the development and supply of large-bore pistons for gas, diesel, heavy-oil, and dual-fuel engines. They are the driving force worldwide—in such applications as locomotives, large building machines, ships, power plants, and emergency power units. They withstand extremely high loads, e.g., peak firing pressures beyond 220 bar: reliably and with a long service life. |
| With leading engineering know-how, we develop new materials and product designs in cooperation with our customers for new piston types that perform even better. For all areas of application, we offer a broad range—e.g., cast aluminum or electron beam-welded pistons, MONOTHERM® and composite pistons with aluminum, nodular cast iron, and steel piston skirts. |
|
Piston pins and cylinder liners complete our Large Engine Components range. When conventional large-bore pistons are reaching the limits of their load-bearing capacity, MAHLE FERROCOMP® pistons are hitting top form. For example, 80 of these pistons power the four engines—with a combined output of 32,800 kW—of the largest diesel-powered trimaran in the world, the “Benchijigua Express”. The trimaran runs between the Canary Islands and reaches a sustained speed of 40.5 knots.
| | By the way: Almost all fast ferries in the world are equipped with MAHLE large-bore pistons in the main propulsion engines. |
